Copyright and Fair Use is a section of the law devoted to ensuring a lack of plagiarism and / or illicit financial gain by claiming another person's work as one's own. It is an incredibly diverse subject, so much so that there are law firms dedicated specifically to copyright law. The application as to how this could be important for teaching becomes obvious when one considers the modern technological sphere we live in. Even the misuse of images on a presentation or the use of copyrighted music in a class video can result in copyright strikes. Therefore, it is important to inform one's students about copyright and why it is incredibly important to understand.
Just like copyright, technology can detect quite a few other activities that we in the academic sphere hope to prevent against. Academic dishonesty is similar to copyright in this regard, as it can be easily detected using modern technology. Most education user interfaces are built to detect plagiarism, and other programs, such as Turnitin are enabled to as well if the user interface can't. Cyberbullying is a bit more difficult, because solving this issue may violate student privacy, which some would argue is just as, if not more important. The best solution to both problems is to encourage students to speak up if they are being targeted through the use of safety programs at the school. As for how technology can be implemented, one can use programs like PowerPoint to deliver the message.
I was able to utilize Microsoft Word to an extent I never have before thanks to the Newsletter assignment. Though I learned most of the skills due to past experience with Word, I had never really had the opportunity to utilized the majority of them all in one place. This is especially true in application to education. Before, I had only ever used it to turn in assignments, however in this case scenario, I was able to create one.
